About Buypile

Buypile connects you with other buyers looking to buy the same thing. We do this by letting you create product topic pages, places where people can share information, post questions, offer suggestions, and more. We'll never sell you anything directly, only point you in the right direction.

Who created buypile?

Typically, we'd tell the true story of two aliens creating plasmoid space dust from which the buypile website originated. But because true stories are often dry, we thought it would be better to fabricate a tale about two nerds creating a website because one of them couldn't find an air purifier on Amazon.com.

Our team consists of two humans and a fearless cat.

Rafal, on the left, tinkers with user interface snazz while obsessing about his new air purifier. He really did spend many hours researching purifiers, which worries everyone.

The man in the middle is Fi, master of all things technical. Many claim 'alien technologies' are behind his skills, but most likely he just gets tips from the cat. Which is true? You decide.

Speaking of which, Kitty pretty much runs the show by keeping order among the ranks. He rules with a tyranical iron paw, which he wields with great mastery. Actually, he just steals Rafal's chair most the time, but the paw thing sounds pretty legit too.

What magical technologies did we use?

Why did we create buypile?

We got tired of searching through hundreds of individual product listings from traditional product search websites, particularly when we didn't know exactly what to buy. For example, we knew we needed an air purifier, but had no idea what features to look for.

Do I really need a HEPA filter? Or should I get one of those Ion Generator things? What works best for allergies?

So naturally we though, "Why can't we connect with other people looking for an air purifier? Maybe they could help us?"

Unfortunately, we had no luck in doing that, so we decided to create buypile.

Why search on buypile?

Why not just read product reviews on Amazon.com or some other product search site? The problem with these sites is that they only let you discuss specific products, which means it's still your job to figure out what to look for, and that just sucks. Many are also in the business of selling you things, so you don't know if you're getting unbiased information.

We built buypile to solve these problems by letting you search and discuss products in a way that makes more sense. Any user, namely you, can create product 'topics' as they see fit, as general as air purifier to as specific as a Alen T300 Tower Air Purifier. Once created, people can use those topics to share and exchange information.
