One problem I've heard about Chinese Buddha is that they use chicken broth for their fake meats, so they aren't vegan like they say. I personally think the veggie food there tastes awesome and breaks the monotony of cardboard soy crap.
From what I can gather I think the fake meat is seitan aka wheat meat:

I didn't hear that, and I'll be sure to ask them next time I go there -- but I think that would be pretty unforgiving for vegetarian options at a restaurant! One thing for sure is that their soups have chicken broth -- they even say it. You might have to get the vegetable soup in order to get the veggi broth.
As a veterinarian, I'm not too keen on animal broths. I guess I'm more like vegan lite.
I looked up what the wheat meat stuff was last time we had chinese together. I found a recipe. I need to try it out. I'll let you know how it goes.
There's also morningstar's steak and chicken strips:

They are super expensive compared to other meat products. I asked customer support why any soy product would cost more than a dumb old cow and that I felt they were pricing their products for yuppies as a fad. They responded that I had no idea how supply chain and logistics work. I love morningstar stuff, but I hate their condescending support line and prices.
Oh, before I goto bed: another vegi-meat option is textured veggie protein[tvp]:

You can make some kickass veggie burgers from scratch. I think a bag like that would run you about $3 and make 8+ veggie patties. So a little bit of other ingredients [black beans, corn, peppers, etc] and spices and you can make your own cardboard burgers :P

One of the things I miss the most about being a vegetarian is mongolian beef, sesame chicken, and chicken nuggets. Fortunately, the chinese buddah restaurant in atlanta on 10th street takes care of the first two. When I ordered the mongolian beef -- WOW, that's all I could say. It was almost better than real beef because it was so moist and flavorful!! This restaurant is pretty amazing when it comes to it's vegetarian meats. I really hope to figure out how they make that stuff, because I'd love to buy whatever it is they use so I could use it in my own cooking.
