Consider the 7.3 if you're on a budget. You don't get the carbon fiber fork (which will give you a slighly smoother ride than the aluminum), it's quite a bit less in price.

Buying a 7.5 fx for commuting/weekend fun

I think I've finally decided to get the 7.5 fx. I realize it's not a full road bike, but because I'm definitely not a hardcore road biker, I think this is good enough.

Although it is a bit pricey at 720 bucks, I think it's a good match for what I need -- a fast semi road bike for commuting and weekend trips. The reason why I like this bike so much is because of the flat bars and more upright position, although you're still leaning pretty far forward for a flat bar bike. I took it for a spin at Calmar Bicycles (http://www.calmarcycles.com/) here in Santa Clara, CA, who were very helpful, and I really felt this bike can get you very close speeds to a road bike. Plus, a road bike is almost cheating, especially when part of riding a bike is riding for the exercise. I think I could probably get to work on a road bike with less effort than getting in my car and strapping on the seat belt. Ok, maybe that was an exaggeration, but you get my idea.

Anyhow, hopefully it'll turn out good! Can't wait to get it.

The seat needs a little work

I notice that when I'm not wearing my cycling shorts, the seat is definitely a little crude on your rear end. It typically starts to hurt a little after about 2-3 miles, so I'm considering switching out the seat with something a little more comfy since it is my commuter bike. Hopefully others haven't had the same experiences?
