Is it safe to eat sushi?

Watch that swordfish and tuna, they contain a ton of mercury.

Yeah, watch out for mercury.
But I figure there's as much junk in it as everything else... :)

  • Actually, I think so too. I think there is actually far more mercury released in dental amalgams than you'd find in food sources, like fish.

"Only in small populations with high consumption of methyl mercury containing fish can the contribution from fish consumption reach or surpass that of amalgam fillings. " from http://www.seychelles.net/smdj/sectionvib.HTM

But given that mercury, in the form of methylmercury, is one of the most potent neurotoxins out there, it's always good to stay away from these types of sources.

  • Thought I think this hoopla pales in comparison to all the stuff we're inhaling from the car exhaust and cigar smoking, etc...

i never got sick eating sushi and i bet that mercury in your teeth gives off more mercury anyway. just look at http://www.curezone.com/dental/amalgampage.asp, and it claims that "approximately four times higher from amalgam fillings than from fish consumption"

time for some sushi tomorrow..
